Business Consultant – Social technopreneur – Educationist
My current role can be best explained in 3 roles: business consultant, social technopreneur and Educationist.
Currently I serve as a business consultant to Sarvodaya-Fusion and 2 organizations in e-commerce and AI based online education.
Fuelled by passion and a vision to grow rural social enterprises using STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) in Sri Lanka, since 2006 I have led Sarvodaya-Fusion (www.fusion.lk), a leading IT for development social enterprise whose mission is to bring digital access, digital literacy and digital benefits to every person in Sri Lanka. The organization runs over 120 IT centers in Sri Lanka on franchise model and builds cross cutting programs in sectors of education, agriculture, micro-finance, employability, youth and women empowerment. With over 40,000 rural youth trained over 12 years, I have always put the community’s needs and requirements first. I was featured in “40 Under 40” in Echelon magazine as one of 2014 most important risk takers, job creators and rule breakers in Sri Lanka. My mission is to keep on co-creating platforms by connecting corporate, government, and NGO partners to help rural entrepreneurs thrive in education, job creation and employment.
At Sarvodaya-Fusion, I connected CSR programs of global corporates including Microsoft, CISCO, Facebook, HSBC and Etisalat. With World Bank I led a 4 country social enterprise innovation program (Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, Bangladesh).
Sarvodaya-Fusion entered in to MoUs with 4 important Government ministries: Min. of Education, Min. of Telecom & Digital Infrastructure, Ministry of Skills Development & Vocational Training and Min. of Disaster Management as their community partner.I serve as the Sri Lankan Community Partner contact point for Open Government Partnership ( OGP) in ‘ICT’ theme working closely with Min. of Telecom & Digital Infrastructure.
The “Android Eco System” designed to introduce smart devices to rural development was heralded as a unique case study in the United Nations’ Information Economy report 2012. I managed FarmerNet (www.farmer.lk) in 2011, a SMS based mobile-online trading platform to facilitate rural farmer trading, in Sri Lanka.
I’m a speaker and coach on development of creativity, innovation, future jobs and startups. I delivered my TEDx Colombo talk in 2014.
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical and Process Engineering, from the University of Moratuwa (2004) and a passed finalist of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) (2004).
I am a voracious Online learner. I have completed multiple certificates in Coursera on Data Science from Johns Hopkins University and on a daily basis I am learning on LinkedIn learning and Udemy. Reading latest tech and management books is my hobby to adapt my self to latest trends and positively engage organisations I am connected to.
